Future Proof Shipping to convert second diesel inland container ship to hydrogen

Dutch-based Future Proof Shipping (FPS) is set to convert a second diesel-powered inland container ship to a hydrogen fuel cell system.

Having made its final voyage on a diesel engine, the FPS Waal has arrived at the Holland Shipyards Group (HSG) shipyard in Werkendam, the Netherlands, where the hydrogen retrofit will take place.

The vessel’s internal combustion engines (ICEs) will be removed to make way for a new zero-emissions propulsion system, made up of PEM fuel cells, hydrogen storage, battery packs and electric drivetrain.
